Cracking loop with Gary heading out from Aboyne over Cairn O’Mount, through Edzel and over Glentress to Aboyne. We got lucky with the weather to start, and heding up Cairn O’Mount (classed as one of the top 100 rides) we rode under sunny skies and no wind – fantastic! Heading over the Cairn we were passed by cars on the Flying Scotsman (http://www.endurorally.com/pages/flying-scotsman-rally-2017) and what stunning cars they were too.
After the quick descent we rode through Fettercairn and on to Edzel, with more old cars keeping us occupied on the way. Once we left Edzel we headed onto quieter roads and gradually climbed our way towards Glenshee. After a short bite to eat just before the half way mark the road slowly climbed before we hit the main road heading towards the ski centre.
The stunning weather up to now decided to take a rapid change as the wind picked up and the rain came down. Jackets on we plodded up to the ski centre – no cups for me on Strava today though. The headwind on the way down made for heavy going, with us sharing the front to get down to Braemar. Wuith Gary in-front as we headed through Braemar, there was no coffee stop that I was looking forward to…..with it still raining this was probably a good move.
After Braemar Gary kicked it up a gear, whilst I kept some in the tank for the following days duathlon, and we finished the days ride a few minutes apart.
Thanks Gary for a great ride.
