Each Year a group of students from Banchory Academy cycle, canoe and/or walk a route across Scotland, raising money for local charities.
Day 1 – Ferry just outside Durness, to the iconic Cape Wrath and back again.
Day 2 – Durness to Bettyhill – a long and very wet day in the saddle for the kids. The hardest day of the trip for some, me included.
Day 3 – Bettyhill to John O’ Groats. Weather greatly improved. John O’ Groats – the start of the summer adventure.
Day 4 – Ferry to Orkney followed by ride to the Italian Chapel, the Churchill Barriers, the Scapa Distillery and finally to Stromness.
Day 5 – Stromness circular route around Orkney via the Ring of Brodgar and Twatt (had to be done) and the Kitchener Memorial, finishing in Kirkwall.
Day 6 – Ferry from Kirkwall to Shetland followed by ride from Sumburgh Lighthouse to Lerwick.
Day 7 – Lerwick to Toft ferry, ferry to Ulsta then ride to ferry at Gutcher, ferry to Belmont on Unst, then ride to Hermaness. Walk to hill to see Muckle Fugga Lighthouse.
And then the ferry back to Aberdeen, along with some Dons supporters for the match against Celtic (we lost 2-1). Interesting characters and sleeping spaces…….
And the final ride back to Banchory. Well done Team!
