Bank holidays are always busy on the roads so we decided to head for Snowdoina and try to be creative with the route. Bala was the starting point only being 1 hour and 45mins from home and a great cafe in the high street for a pre ride espresso.
The route had five bigs climbs with a great lunch stop in Beddgelert. The first 3 climbs of the day where really quiet, only one or two cars passed us. These passes are not really well know and the road surfaces are fantastic.
The only busy road was the climb to the summit of Pen y Pass and then into Betws-y-Coed but no busier than any other Sunday in North Wales !
The final big climb of the day is a real gem. The climb out of Cwm Penmachno is an amazing glaciated valley that seems to have no way out. After this the run down back into Bala spins the legs out for a good few miles.
All in all a great day – no wind, hot, quiet roads and a route to be reversed !
