The last leg……

So this is it, the last days ride and the last 53 miles. After a proper lie in and hearty breakfast, we eventually left the White Hart Hotel at around 9:30 am – no rush to get to hotels or for food at the end of the day – the pressure was off.

Just after leaving St Austell we met up with Dave Weeks who would join us for the last day. The Barkers, Partons and Weeks were there too en-route to Lands’ End to see us finish our ride. With the local lad taking the lead, we ventured slightly off the original route for a short section before picking it up again after a few miles.

The road undulated until the main climb of the day up to Four Lanes before dropping down to Marazion and views across to St. Michael’s Mount.

After the short coastal section we arrived in Penzance for some food – leaving only 10 miles or so to do after the stop. We stopped at The Old Lifeboat House Bistro, where the lycra clad waitress served us our cream teas.

At this point, only 10 miles from the end I managed to drop my phone and smash the screen – doh! As long as my Garmin was still working…….

The last 10 miles was a steady climb, before the final descent to the finish at Land’s End where we were greeted by a very enthusiastic welcoming party, with banners and shouts to guide us in.

Just as I stopped my Garmin the screen went blank…….(fortunately the following day I managed to recover the ride).

And on to the obligatory photo by the sign (for a small fee of course).

Followed by pasties and coffee….

Job done!

We would like to say a huge thanks to all those that had made the trip possible and to everyone for sponsoring us and helping to support the great work going on at Royal Stoke Radiotherapy Department.

Right…..next challenge…….
